There's lots of news about our own X-treme Sport Shooter Patrick Flanigan:

• First, he was here at the Winchester headquarters a few weeks ago.
• Second, Patrick will be co-hosting this year's Winchester Legends TV show on Versus.

A few weeks ago X-treme Sport Shooter Patrick Flanigan was here at the Morgan offices. It was a courtesy call of sorts, but he was a man with a mission once we got the formalities out of the way. He worked with our Winchester Repeating Arms video team on a couple of commercials, each shot on our trap and skeet range. In the process he got his first hands-on experience with the new Winchester Super X Pump shotgun. 

Flanigan was between exhibitions during his packed summer season. In addition to the commercials he took some time testing the waters on the idea of breaking a few more world records down the road. As you probably know, Patrick's original world records did not come easily.  These were intense experiences with a huge amount of preparation and hard work and all were done under extreme pressure. Especially his 12 shots in 1.442 seconds which was videoed under laboratory-like conditions, using hi-tech electronic timing equipment, in front of a TV news film crew -- and under extreme time constraints.

On his recent visit is was more of the same. As explained by Patrick himself, "We actually spent very little time on the world records as we were confident my current records will stand for a while so we are going to come back to the records in late summer. However, I have got to be honest, the pump hip record will be the easier of the two for me to accomplish. It's the speed record of 12 rounds shot in 1.4 sec from a non-modified shotgun that seems almost impossible to break. I am sure there is some gunsmith genius out there who could modify one of my SX3's and make it quicker but I truly don't believe there is a person capable of pulling the trigger that fast and I am proud that all my records occur with a non-modified gun. Only time will tell if I am capable of bettering that record but I vow not to give up!"

Setting the Super X3 record with what is essentially an out-of-the-box mechanism is one thing that truly sets Patrick apart from the others. The same is true of his hip shooting records. Others have relied on gimmicks and tricks to get better performance and speed, but Patrick and his Winchesters have not had to play that game. So the performance you see him get on commercials or at shows all across the country is what you can expect with your Winchester Super X Pump or Super X3 shotgun.

The new Super X Pump is based on many of the proven design features originally incorporated in the Winchester Speed Pump and the Model 1300 Winchester before that. Namely, the massively strong four lug rotary bolt. It provides one of the strongest possible action designs, yet the extremely quick unlocking after firing allows inertia in the forearm and slide to actually assist in starting the slide rearward for the next shot. It is clearly one of the fastest pump action designs ever designed and is considered by many as the fastest. Just watch Patrick in action and see it for yourself.

The Super X Pump has a few convenience features that set it apart from other designs. For example it comes standard with a fully chrome plated barrel AND bore (inside and out) for total durability. It's fully compatible with any shot --  steel, lead, tungsten, whatever. And it chrome plating makes cleaning easier and faster than ever. You can take your Super X Pump into wet, humid conditions without panicking about barrel rust.

Barrel dynamics include the Invector Plus choke tube system with back boring. Combining back bored barrels (at .742" diameter) with the proven, longer taper design of Invector Plus give the pump shooter the same performance characteristics that the majority of world class sporting shooters are getting from the world's top brands -- and this includes top-of-the-line shotguns like the Winchester Model 101 and the Super X3 autoloader.

Prior to the introduction of today's Super X Pump, back in August of 2006, Patrick Flanigan broke six hand-thrown clay targets individually, without assistance, from the hip with the same basic Winchester  rotary bolt  design found on his proven Winchester Speed Pump, setting a new world record.
