Most Pennsylvanian hunters can only dream about the big elk that roam the ridges of Cameron County. But drawing for one of the elusive 59 tags, only 20 of which are for bulls, is a long shot. But Lisa Banasick beat the odds.
Lisa’s tag was for Zone 3. Three days of hard hunting turned up no animals; then, on the fourth day near Driftwood, a large bull was spotted. Lisa quickly got into position as the elk quartered away uphill. She recounts, “I made a 150-yard shot across the Simenahoning Creek. The bull dropped like a ton of bricks! I’ll never forget seeing that 836 lb. animal rolling downhill.”
Lisa took a fine 12 x 10 bull. The bull green scored B&C at 405 1/8th.
Lisa used a Winchester Model 70 in 270 Win. with Winchester Supreme Elite 150 gr. XP3 ammo. She works as a school psychologist southeast of Pittsburgh. Congratulations to her!
Nothing helps the attitude more than a little fresh air, a good hike and scoring on a possible state record bull elk.
