Model 101 ranked among Best Shotgun Values by Outdoor Life.
We appreciate the compliment from the editors at Outdoor Life. We just got the news that Outdoor Life magazine's Best Shotguns issue has rated today's Winchester Model 101 as one of the Best Shotgun Values. The 101 seems to be kind of a low key sort of shotgun, not always getting a ton of attention. So it is about time that it is recognized as being possibly the best overall value of all the top tier over and unders in the world today.
On page 39 of the September issue the Outdoor life editors gave their short-list of reasons for the Winchester 101 making the list:
"The original 101 was a simplified copy of the Browning Superposed. Resurrected, the new 101 has the same look and feel of the original. Made in Belgium with screw-in chokes and a choice of 26- or 28-inch barrels, it's a bargain."
Today's Model 101 is indeed a walk back in time in the way it looks, feels and handles. But in nearly every other way today's Model 101 Winchester is superior.
Its beauty holds true to its Model 101 roots with classic stock dimensions along with a nicely trim grip that provides a performance fit you will love immediately. Sight down the lightweight barrels and the solid brass bead front sight is immediately picked up by your eye. The Invector-Plus™ choke system with three tubes provide optimum shot patterns. Deep-relief receiver engraving mimics the originals, as does the luxuriously finished high-gloss high grade walnut complete with a vented Pachmayr® Decelerator® pad with classic white line spacer.
The Winchester 101 shotgun has many features that set it apart in value and overall performance.
Low-Profile Receiver
Your hand can be closer to the bore centerline, bringing your hands, face and sighting plane into a more natural alignment for more intuitive and accurate shooting. In-line recoil, less muzzle jump for faster follow up shots.
Familiar Dimensions
The familiar drop at comb and heel as well as the narrow, comfortable grip ensure time-tested levels of comfort and performance.
Grip Cap
The model 101 has an elegantly fitted grip cap.
Pachmayer Decelerator Recoil Pad
The Pachmayer Decelerator reduces felt recoil to a very manageable level.
Cut Checkering
Finely cut checkering to improve grip also adds artistic elegance to the walnut stock and forearm.
.742 Back-Bored Technology
Extensive research and testing has proven that when it comes to back-boring, .742” is the ideal interior barrel diameter, ensuring tight, consistent patterns. Any larger and gases blow by the shot cup and reduce pellet velocity. Too small and the pellets are deformed as they pass through the forcing cone, causing poor ballistic performance.
Invector-Plus Chokes
All 101 shotguns come with either extended Signature Series or flush-mounted Invector Plus tubes.
Truglo Sights
The Truglo sight system on some target models offer quick target acquisition.
Steel-Tough Hinge
All hinge areas bear tension from recoil with each shot, so the Model 101 is built with surfaces that are 49% larger than many competitors. The surfaces are machined simultaneously with the hinge to ensure perfect alignment.
Exceptionally tough locking pin "lugs."
The locking lugs have 30% more contact surface than the competition for an action that’s built to last.
Chrome Plated Chambers and Bores
All Winchester Model 101 shotguns have chrome-plated chambers and bores that stand up to the abuse thousands of shells can take.
