Yes, but only the 2020 and newer shotguns that have the larger, angled trigger guard can have the safety reversed to accommodate both right- and left-handed users. The previous trigger group, pre-2020, with the oval-shaped trigger guard does not have a reversible safety button.
For the first ten shots we recommend, if possible, using jacketed bullets with a nitro powder load. After firing each bullet, use a good copper cleaner (one that has ammonia) to remove copper fouling in the barrel. If you look into the end of the barrel after firing a shot, you will see a light copper-colored wash in the barrel. This must be removed before firing the next shot. Somewhere in the procedure at around shot 6 or 7, it will be obvious that the copper color is no longer appearing in the barrel. Continue applications through shot 10.
If you have any ammunition left, you then may shoot two rounds and clean it for the next ten shots. This is simply insurance that the burnishing process has been completed.
In theory what you have just accomplished is the closing of the pores of the barrel metal which have been opened and exposed through the cutting and lapping procedures.
The same process may be used with firing lead bullets and black powder to do the break-in procedure with the exception that in this case you should shoot 2 bullets before cleaning for the first 30 rounds. You could use harder lead if available. This will accelerate the break-in. This will accomplish the same thing as the jacketed bullets.
After following the procedure, your barrel's interior surface will be sealed and should shoot cleaner and develop less fouling for the rest of its shooting life.

Pattern your shotgun by shooting 3–4 rounds at a marked paper target from 40 yards, then measure the pellet spread and center-point.
1. Attach a large sheet of paper (40–50") to a pattern board, positioned 40 yards downrange.
2. Mark a 6" dot in the center with a horizontal line labeled “top” and “bottom.”
3. From your shooting position, aim with the dot resting on your front bead. Keep the rib and gun perfectly level — canting or angling will skew results.
4. Shoot, replace the paper, and repeat 3–4 times using a fresh sheet each time.

To calculate pattern percentage, draw a 30" circle around the densest cluster of pellet holes on your target, count the holes inside it, and divide by the total pellet count in the shell.

· Pattern density: Draw a 20" circle inside that 30" circle and repeat the count — useful for small-target shooting like turkey hunting, where a denser core matters more than overall spread.
Results vary by choke and shot size, so test a few combinations at the distance you shoot most to find the best match for your [choke tube selection].
Most shotguns don't shoot dead-center — a 60/40 pattern, meaning 60% of pellets land above your point of aim, is common from the factory.
· Some shotguns pattern 50/50 (evenly split above and below the aim point).
· Trap guns often shoot even higher, since trap shooters prefer the target to “float” above the front bead.
· A small amount of left-right variation is normal, even in high-end shotguns, and can shift depending on the choke tube used.

The Active Valve System is the self-adjusting gas system that powers every SX4 semi-auto shotgun, automatically regulating gas pressure so the gun cycles reliably across a wide range of loads. Rather than requiring the shooter to swap parts for different shell weights, the valve automatically adjusts for pressure and bleeds off exactly the amount of gas needed for each shot.

No, a 3" chambered SX4 is designed only for 2¾" and 3" factory loads and should never be used with 3½" shells. Firing a shell longer than the chamber is rated for can cause dangerous overpressure and damage to the shotgun.
· 3" chamber models: Rated to shoot factory 12 gauge loads including 2¾" and 3" (1 oz. to 2 oz.). Not designed for the lightest 7/8 oz. or 1 oz. target loads, or any 3½" shells.

Yes, all current production Winchester shotguns with Invector-Plus or WinChoke choke tube systems are fully compatible with factory steel shot loads. The choke tubes and barrels are engineered to handle the added stress steel shot places on the muzzle.
· Use only choke tubes marked for steel shot compatibility and avoid the tightest constrictions.
· High-density loads such as HEVI-Shot and Winchester Extended Range should be treated the same as steel shot when selecting a choke.
· Bores and chambers on current shotguns are chrome-plated or Black Nitride finished to resist the wear steel shot can cause over time.
As a general rule, don't use a choke tighter than Modified with either steel shot or tungsten/high-density loads unless the tube is specifically marked for a tighter constriction. Because steel and tungsten are harder than lead, they don't compress the way lead shot does, and forcing them through too tight a constriction can deform the tube or produce a "blown," inconsistent pattern.
· Steel shot: Step down one constriction level from what you'd use with lead (e.g., a Full choke pattern with lead is achieved using Improved Modified with steel).
