The design gives you maximum flexibility for positioning your scope rings and the placement of your scope overall -- something very important with a rifle. The machined alloy part won't add unnecessary weight, but the overall rigidity of mounting will give you the kind of precision you are looking for. Accepts picatinny style scope rings only.
